Innis, Milton “Bliss”

February 20, 1932 – April 26, 2024
at the age of 92 years:

Service to honour Bliss will be held June 7, 2024, 2:00-4:00 pm, at Fischer’s Funeral Services, 4060 1st Ave SW, Salmon Arm, BC.

life well lived and all projects completed, Bliss left this world quietly with his wife Marie at his bedside.  Bliss was living at Bastion Place in Salmon Arm, and we thank them for their care and for making his life there the best it could be.

Bliss was born in Prince Albert, Sask, and lived out his teenage years on a farm in Kinistino, Sask. In 1952 following the sale of the family farm the entire family left Saskatchewan, in a Ford sedan and traveled to Salmon Arm and their new home on Piccadilly Road in Salmon Arm, BC.

In 1957 Bliss met and married his first wife Anita Kilberg.  Together they raised two sons Darryl and Gary. They lived in Sicamous and Malakwa before moving to Castlegar. Bliss worked various jobs logging, sawmilling, and construction.  Life wasn’t easy but with great perseverance Bliss made his way into Celgar Pulp Mill and eventually to Prince George and PG Pulp and Paper, where he attained his Millwright designation.  Bliss worked for the pulp industry for many years finishing his career at Armstrong Plywood, retiring at age 60.  Bliss loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and the family cabin on Ness Lake. He was an avid gardener and his tomatoes were his pride and joy. Bliss was a skilled woodworker and has many projects large and small to be proud of.

After his retirement in 1992 Bliss set out and achieved one of his lifelong dreams and cycled from Victoria, BC. to St John’s, Newfoundland. He then returned home traveling across the country by train.  He enjoyed many adventures on his bike in the years that followed. In 1999 Bliss was reacquainted with Marie Bruce and they were married in Kona, Hawaii in 2013. Bliss and Marie enjoyed many winters in Kona and their life in Vernon and Salmon Arm.

Bliss leaves behind his loving wife, Marie, his son, Gary Innis (Teri Allen), grandson, Michael Innis (Stephanie Sprout) granddaughter Ashleigh Schreiner (Graham Schreiner) great grandchildren Linden, Mila and Wren, stepson Michael Bruce (Cecania), sister Arlene Wood, brother Bob Innis (Miriam). Anita Kilberg, mother of their two sons.  He was predeceased by his son Darryl Innis, brother Hilliard Innis, sisters Karen Irwin and Patricia Ganzert (Ed), and stepbrother Brian Whiting (Bertha).

Service to honour Bliss will be held June 7, 2024, 2:00-4:00 pm, at Fischer’s Funeral Services, 4060 1st Ave SW, Salmon Arm, BC.

  1. Oh, re-living many good memories of time spent with Bliss biking with the Vernon Outdoors Club. His sense of humor and support was so valued. He was my mentor; as he helped me select my first hybrid bicycle and guided me as I learned the ropes of road biking. I have such strong and wonderful memories of him. With much sadness and holding space for you Marie. He will be greatly missed. With warmth, Abbie
