She asked us to extend her Heartfelt thanks to the hospital staff and EMS that took such great care of her.

Your work is all done now Mom; Rest in Peace.
Love You!

  1. I have a photo of Mrs Hyam in my old church camp album from years ago. So much enthusiasm and dedication.

  2. What an outstanding example of how to build and then be a part of ones community. Mrs Hyam you were a legend and Sicamous would not have become what it is without your impact and work as one of our most steadfast pioneers

  3. When I knew that I would be going out to Sicamous United Church to be in ministry with the congregation there, the previous interim minister told me that I should run things by Bernice each week. In my head I said, `Fat chance! I’m not letting anyone tell me what I can and cannot do in my ministry.’ As it turned out, I ran quite a few things past Bernice. No, she didn’t tell me what to do or not do, but Bernice had a certain kind of power. It was not the power of bullying or of holding the purse strings, it was not the power of age (though she was my elder), or position in the church, (though she was the treasurer). Bernice’s power came from personal integrity, a quite wisdom born of many years of experience, and a genuine care for the ministry carried out at Sicamous United Church and Thrift Shop.

Bernice was a church matriarch in the best sense of that word, supporting the Church and Thrift shop with her time, her finances, her wisdom and her heart.

I am so glad I listened to the `do it now’ voice that made me go visit Bernice on the Friday morning before her passing. We had a good visit, and I had a chance to thank her for all that she had blessed me with and I sang her a wee song before I left. Rest in peace and power, dear Bernice.
