Smith, Virginia Gertrude

September 2, 1939 – November 25, 2024
at the age of 85 years

Virginia passed away at home in Salmon Arm on November 25, 2024 at the age of 85 years.  She was born Sept. 2, 1939 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan.

She was predeceased by husband Robert Bunyan, sister Linda McMurtry, brothers Herb and Chris McArthur.  Left to mourn are grieving family members: daughters Shawn L’Henaff (John Barrow), Cheryl West, son Darryl Smith.  Grandchildren Nicole Clark (Travis), Drell L’Henaff (Amanda), Travis L’Henaff, April Smith, Emma Piercey (Niko).
Great grandchildren Eve Clark and Brooklyn L’Henaff, sister Irene Domokos and several nephews, nieces and cousins.

Mom loved to spend her time E-biking the Okanagan rail trail, float down the Shuswap River, fish and spend time exploring trails and parks across B.C.  She loved to craft – many family members received her works of art.  She also enjoyed writing and gardening.

She had many career changes throughout, but the highlight was her final years working captaining the commercial fishing boat that her husband Bob built – they spent many years fishing for prawns and salmon off the coast of B.C. In the winters they would go to the home they built near Palm Desert California and later travelling the Baja of Mexico in their RV.  She loved to travel and immerse herself in different cultures.

Mom was an active climate change advocate- doing her part to make this world a better place for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She also loved wildlife and nature and contributed financially to the Canadian Wildlife Federation, Nature Trust of B.C. and Greenpeace Canada Education charities.  As such -a donation to one of these charities would be appreciated in lieu of flowers.

A celebration of life will be held in late summer 2025.

Conklin, Tyler James

Conklin, Tyler James

December 22, 1982 – November 20, 2024
at the age of 41 years:

Dear Tyler, we walk this less traveled path without you by our sides not knowing what each corner will bring. On November 20th, 2024, you were taken from us too soon; your journey began December 22nd, 1982, in Vancouver, BC to Don and Brenda Conklin. You lived and grew in Vancouver until you were 12 years old, then moved to Lytton, BC. There you explored your interest of vehicles driving all different ones around Gladwin property learning how things ran and how to fix it when needed. You were always so good at figuring out what was wrong and giving it that special touch.

Tyler graduated from Kumsheen High School in Lytton, BC then moved onward to the Vernon and Armstrong area where he started his journey at Kohler. Tyler worked there for 20 plus years, always enjoyed working there, enjoying all the people and had some close friends from there. They recognized him as a kind easy going family guy, always willing to teach people the tricks he knew, hard worker and an all-around quality guy.

Nineteen years ago, we met, and you changed my world; you were my rock, my star, my light in dark times, the one man I could trust. You became my everything and nothing has changed, I will always love you to the moon and back and one day I know we will be together again. You gave me 3 wonderful children that love you so much and miss you dearly. You had your special nick names and those will never be the same coming from me. Tyler always loved to get out on the lake early to enjoy the fishing, he enjoyed dirt bike riding with his son and making jumps for them to take and share special moments, working on vehicles, camping, and loved looking at the holiday lights each year with his family. He had recently gotten into landscaping with the dozer we just bought, he was eager to learn new things all the time. Tyler and his kids also share a strong love for German Sheperds and an overall love for all dogs. He is surrounded by our beloved dogs that passed that day with him; we know they are up there taking care of him side by side.

Tyler was an amazing partner and father, he was kind, sweet, gentle, honest, and strong willed; he was an amazing son and brother that would do anything for his
family. Tyler was an amazing friend that was always there no matter what; he would help those that needed it at any given time. He was one of the good ones!

You live on through your children Isabella, Tamira, and Tristan, spouse Kristina Riggs, mother Brenda Conklin, father Donald Conklin, siblings Randy and Rick Conklin Shannon and Christina Stanford, nieces, nephews and extended family in Nova Scotia who are missing you deeply and will always hold you close. You are our hero in this world and that will never change. Thus, we will never forget such an amazing soul.

Every time a bell rings, an angel gets their wings.”

Norm did his schooling in the old brick school house in Armstrong, but left early to begin his career in the heavy equipment industry, supporting farming, logging, and construction. He got his start as a mechanic then progressed to parts, service and sales.  With his wife Jan, he started and ran NorJan Equipment Sales until 2006 when he retired.

His interests in later years were RVing from Alaska to Mazatlan, Mexico and west to east coasts and back across Canada and the USA, Australia and New Zealand and 5 weeks in South Africa.  Going on international cruises was a favourite.  He also enjoyed may years of boating and golf and was a Snowbird for 30 years. Norm loved to visit and share memories of his travels.

In 1976, Norm married the love of his life Jan MacKay Assaly.  Together they ran their businesses and were never apart for 48 wonderful and exciting years.  Norm had son Craig from his first marriage to Wendy Wallace and Jan brought her son Troy into the family.  Troy has since added three wonderful grandchildren to the family.

Norm is survived by his loving wife Jan, his two sons Craig (Tracy) and Troy.  Norm also cherished his 3 grandchildren Isaac, Mikah, and Angelica and many nieces and nephews.
