It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Eleanor Ann Caminiti at 94 on January 9th, in Salmon Arm. Her husband, Victor, of almost 70 years, was at her bedside. She is predeceased by her parents, Mary and Jacob Martens, brother, Jack, and sister, Elvira. She is survived by her children, Ken (Laurie), Rick, Jim (Maria), Lisa (Wayne), grandson, Nicholas (Ashley), great-granddaughter, Natalia, niece, Marianne and nephews, Lynn and Lloyd.
Eleanor lived a long life, exceptionally well. She was born on August 6th, 1930 to Jacob and Mary Martens in Macklin, Saskatchewan. Her family moved to Elie, Manitoba when she was five and in 1942, settled in New Westminster, BC. At 15, Eleanor began working at Pacific Veneer (which later became CANFOR) and worked there for 9 1/2 years. In 1953, Eleanor met Victor and they married in 1955.
Eleanor was a homebody, had a quiet and reserved personality and was happiest when surrounded by family. She cared lovingly for her husband, children, their spouses and her only grandchild. She was thrilled to welcome her great-granddaughter a year ago.
Eleanor and Victor lived in Coquitlam until 1995, when they bought a 5 acre parcel in Salmon Arm and built the home they resided in for the past 30 years.
Eleanor had many talents, passions, interests and hobbies. She was, however, the very definition of a homemaker. Her home was spotless and her meals were always homemade and delicious. She was a legendary baker and made the best pies, cakes, cookies, Christmas pudding and Easter bread. Eleanor was a master gardener and she took great pride in her yard. Her garden was manicured perfectly and punctuated with the most beautiful summer annuals. She had a huge vegetable garden that was so bountiful, she shared the excess with neighbours and the food bank.
Eleanor had a lifelong love of music. She enjoyed country, gospel, country rock, pop and Hawaiian music but her favourites were Elvis and the Eagles.
Eleanor had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel. She and Victor enjoyed many trips to the southern US States, Australia and cruised to the Bahamas, Hawaii, and to Alaska.
The family has been very blessed to have had her for so many years. She was loved beyond measure and will be missed forever.
We are indebted to Dr. Bruegem and Dr. Main for their care of Eleanor over many years as well as Dr. Goldberg and the wonderful nurses at Shuswap Hospital for their compassionate care in her final days.
Eleanor’s celebration of life will be held at Fischer’s Funeral Home in Salmon Arm on Saturday, February 22 at 1:00pm
In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Shuswap Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
Eleanor was a beautiful lady inside & out with a warm & welcoming smile. Her kindness & gracious manner will be missed.
Our condolences to Victor & the family.
We are very sad to read of Eleanor’s passing. Vic and Eleanor were our neighbors on Robinson St. in Coquitlam. We have kept in contact for many years. Our condolences to Vic and the family. We have many happy memories of our times together.
My condolences go out to the Caminiti family. I went to school with Rick and Jimmy. I remember your mom with always a big smile on her face. May the support of each other get you through this difficult time.
Your Mom, “Mrs. Caminiti” was one of the cornerstone moms in our neighbourhood when I was a girl … I have known her for pretty much my whole life.
Memories are blessings!
I was so saddened to hear of her passing and so happy I was able to have such a lovely visit last Summer♥️
My heart goes out to Vic and the rest of the family as you all begin the difficult process of grieving and caring for one another.
I will remember your family in prayer and am so grateful for the fond memories of Eleanor and her dancing to Elvis in the kitchen.
