My dear Renee, Julie and Tim – and all your dear ones. I have just made a random search on the internet for your wonderful mother Emilie – and I was really shocked and saddened to read the news of her death. Emilie became a kind of older sister to me for a few unforgettable weeks in the summer of …1967, I think, when she visited Northern Ireland. You probably heard her talk about her stay with my parents Wallace and June Clark….and how this became a lifelong, although long-distance, friendship. My brother Miles (born in 1960, died in 1993) and I (born in 1958) really enjoyed Emilie’s company when we were little boys. I then visited Winterswijk twice during my childhood and enjoyed practising the small amount of Dutch I had taught myself. During the lonely years of covid (when I was living in Northern Ireland, at times in severe isolation) Emilie and I reconnected and had some wonderful zoom conversations. The last time that we corresponded intensively was after the death of her mother Wiesje which affected her a great deal. Emilie had vivid memories of my father Wallace (who died in 2011) and my mother June (who died in 2017) and it was always nice to compare notes about the past. May Emilie’s soul be at peace, I am really happy to have known you, dear sister. It would be very nice to hear from one of you and understand a little better what happened. Sending fondest greetings to you all Bruce

Dear Renee (Colin, Ellie and Ida); Julie (Matt and Beatrix); Tim(Alix and Orson), I just now am finding out about the passing of your mother, my dear friend Emilie! I am so sorry for your immense loss. I see she passed on her birthday. I hope you were able to still celebrate the planned wedding; she would have wanted you to do so. She will be forever in my heart.

My Dearest Emilie, our Dutch Emilie, you were not meant to leave us so soon. Dear friend and neighbour, I will miss you until the end of my time.
You had so many wonderful plans for the future and we were embracing them with you. I will treasure the mementos and the memories. I was so happy to hear that you were at Sarah McLachlan’s performance at Roots and Blues. You are truly in the Arms of the Angels, dear Emilie.
Our love, sympathy and heartfelt condolences are extended to your wonderful children and their families.
